Dear
LST 793 Crew and Family,
This is a reminder letter to make your
reservations for the LST 793 18th Annual Reunion being held in
Lafayette, Louisiana on September 21, 22 and 23, 2000. The room block will only be held until
August 21st. The Hampton Inn
of Lafayette’s telephone number is
(318) 236-6161. Tell them you
are reserving for the LST 793 Reunion.
You will need to leave a credit card number to hold your reservation. The $59.99 rate is for 2 doubles or a king
and up to 4 in the room. If you have
any problems at all, ask for Amy Standford.
The hotel is almost new and will be just
2 years old by the reunion, has inside halls and an elevator. The hospitality room is at the front near
the breakfast area and front desk.
There is a hall of guest rooms right there along with the elevator. Ask for a room near the hospitality room and
we can try to take that entire hall, but this is not guaranteed.
We saw many crew members and family in
Clearwater this past March. Indications
are that many members are planning on attending in Lafayette. Quite a few people have already made
reservations and sent me their reply cards.
This is looking to have a very good turnout. To clarify something, though, based on Clearwater, you need to
call the hotel and make your own reservations.
I am not making hotel reservations for you. By mailing in your reply card, you are only telling me that you
are attending and how many people are attending the activities planned.
All activities have remained as was
described on the announcement letter in October. The only change is that for the optional swamp tour on Saturday
morning, we now have the 50-passenger boat since so many people have signed up
already. I am sure you will enjoy all
the activities planned.
If you haven’t done so, please mail me
your reply card or tear off the one I have attached and mail it to me as early
as possible. This lets me know the
number of people we are expecting and we can alter arrangements as necessary depending
on the attendance.
I understand that some people are
considering flying. There are several
major airlines serving the Lafayette Regional Airport as well as the Baton
Rouge Regional Airport. Of course, they
all serve the New Orleans International Airport. The Lafayette airport is about 8 miles from the hotel. The Baton Rouge Airport is about a 1 hour
drive and the New Orleans Airport is about a 2 hour drive. The drive is easy and all on Interstate 10. There is ground transportation (taxi and
other) available at the Lafayette airport for about $8 per person and several
rental car companies as well including Avis, Budget, Hertz, National,
Enterprise and Sears. Enterprise and
National appear the cheapest as of this writing.
If you are driving from the east on I-10, when you reach Slidell, just before New Orleans, take I-12 north of New Orleans and get back on I-10 in Baton Rouge and continue west on to Lafayette. The hotel is at the intersection of I-10 and Ambassador Caffery at exit 100. I have requested a Louisiana Tour Guide and map be sent to you by the Louisiana Tourist Commission.
Jazzland opens in New Orleans at the end
of May this year. If you have time, it
may be worth a visit on your way home or to the Gulf Coast Casinos. The
high quality attraction will offer 31 outstanding amusement rides, spectacular
shows, scrumptious food and a variety of live music -- everything that makes
New Orleans a world-class destination.
If you need
any more information or help with anything at all, please give me a call. I love speaking to all of you and helping
when I can. You can try me toll free at
work at 1-800-395-2276 and ask for me.
If not, though, I look forward to seeing all of you in Lafayette in
September.
Au Revoir!
Your LST Friends and Hosts,
Rita and Kathy Rhodes
